Troy McCann

Moonshot Space'i asutaja ja tegevjuht

For Troy, the wonder of space is where science and entrepreneurship intercept, and where the result is taking humanity as we search for a more abundant future. Born with a passion for science and it’s impact on people, Troy spent a lot of time in his childhood pulling apart computers, electronics, mechanical gadgets, and computer code to see how they worked and to build new solutions to people’s problems.

Since seeing the moon in detail through a small telescope as a small child, he became captivated with the opportunities waiting to be unlocked for humanity in the wider universe. But growing up in Australia with no space industry, he had resigned to the idea that this career was never going to be an option. This changed later in life while completing a degree in electrical engineering at the University of Melbourne, when he learned of ‘cubesats’ which led him to found the Melbourne Space Program, a volunteer body concerned with the development of the Australian space industry through encouraging the development of new space-related innovations.

Troy mixed his passions for technology and entrepreneurship together through multiple businesses started during and after graduating university, before starting Moonshot: an organisation dedicated to ‘Make Space Easy’ through the cultivation of space innovation ecosystems around the world, searching for solutions to difficult problems that will lead to a more resource abundant future for humanity.

Today, Moonshot runs their Gemini Ideator across more than 20 cities across the globe, and will launch their first space tech accelerator in late 2018.

Today, Moonshot runs a collection of programs and businesses designed to grow different aspects of the space economy, from the not-for-profit Gemini Ideator run across Europe, Asia, Oceania and North America, to startup accelerators designed specifically to address the needs of space startups and scaleups at different stages, to working with private investors, large corporates, governments, and universities.
